– Out of nothing

– Earth was formless, empty, and dark

– The Holy Spirit hovering

– God speaking

New Creation:

– We are nothing, formless, empty, and dark.

– In his incarnation, life, death, and burial, Christ became nothing, formless, empty, and dark in order to save us from nothingness, formlessness, emptiness, and darkness.

– Because of His atoning sacrifice and death, we are saved and free from the curse and bondage of nothingness, formlessness, emptiness, and darkness.

– Because of His atoning sacrifice and death, God gave us the Holy Spirit.

– Because of Jesus, by His Spirit and word, God forms, fills, and “lights” us.

In Genesis 15:1-6, God spoke to Abraham about His promise of an offspring. Then in verses 13-20, God spoke to him again about the promised offspring. This tells us that the covenant is all about the offspring.

That offspring is Jesus.  He is the substance of the covenant. The covenant is all about Him!

I was honored and privileged to preach on Acts 2:42-47 via Skype during the 2nd anniversary of our mission congregation in Iligan City, Mindanao, Philippines.

17265169_10213102304337339_3946011067093960724_nBecause of Christ’s life, death, resurrection, ascension, rule, and intercession, God the Father sent the Holy Spirit to build His New Testament Church.  By His enabling grace and power alone, God’s renewed people “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers… And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”  To God’s word, fellowship, prayer, and outreach, let us devote ourselves, trusting and relying on the Lord to cause and enable us.

Love as Worship

God is love (1 John 4:8), and His church must be characterized by love (1 John 3:10-18).

The Church is One

2017-01-29-18-25-19Christ lived a perfect life, died to pay for our sins, and rose again for our salvation.  He went up to heaven to pray and ask the Father to give us the Holy Spirit.  And on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured out and the New Testament Church was created.  And the Church that the Holy Spirit created is one.
